Raoul
Raoul caught sight of Christophe as he made his way across the floor. Raoul set his glass of wine down and walked towards him. He was dressed very fetchingly in a dress that made him look like a rabbit.
It wasnât a surprise to Raoul, that Christophe had worn a dress. Even as a child he had always adored pretty things and never seemed to care if people thought it strange. He would wear what he liked, and the world could deal with it.
Raoul admired that about him.
He intercepted Christophe and took his hand. âYou make a very beautiful bunny.â
Christopheâs eyes roamed up and down over Raoulâs costume and then settled on his face, the picture of confusion. âA knight?â
âItâs me, Raoul,â Raoul said. Christopheâs face broke into a wide smile.
âIâm so pleased to see you, I canât recognise anyone.â
âI suppose it is rather the point of a Masquerade, but Iâd rather you werenât feeling confused.â Raoul pulled his own mask off and slipped it into his pocket. âIs that better?
âMuch.â Christophe pulled back to strike a pose, showing off the tail on the dress and winking coquettishly over his shoulder. âHow do I look?â
âDivine,â Raoul said. âAbsolutely gorgeous, sweetheart.â
âLetâs dance,â Christophe said. He held his hand out to Raoul who kissed the back of it, and then led him onto the dance floor.
âAnything you wish for, you shall have,â Raoul said. He took Christophe in his arms and they began to dance. Raoul lost himself in Christopheâs huge eyes and was content. The world fell away and all that existed was the delicate man in his arms.
âThis suits you,â Christophe said, after a time. âThe shining armour, it fits your personality.â
âI daresay the rabbit suits you as well, but I donât think youâre as timid as a rabbit,â Raoul said.
âRabbits arenât only timid,â Christophe said. âThey are important in a lot of myths and stories. Did you know that the Japanese see a rabbit on the moon, not a man?â
âI didn't,â Raoul said.
âLots of people say that rabbits are lucky, or that they inspire creativity,â Christophe continued, then broke into a giggle. âI donât exactly know why I was so drawn to it, I just love them.â
Raoul leaned in and planted a soft kiss on Christopheâs tinted lips. âI like it, youâve convinced me.â
Christophe laughed again, and Raoul thought that perhaps there was nothing he wouldnât do to hear that sound for the rest of his life.
Christopheâs hand wandered on Raoulâs shoulder, tugging his costume aside and dipping a finger underneath to touch the leather collar. Raoul couldnât suppress the way his body shivered at the reminder.
âI like you. And I have spoken with Matthieu, he is⦠considering. I am so excited at the prospect.â Christophe tugged on the collar with one finger and giggled at the way Raoulâs eyes fluttered. He let go of the collar and wrapped his arms tight around Raoulâs shoulders. âI want to know everything Eric has planned for us.â
Raoul licked his lips, adjusted his hold on Cristopheâs waist and smiled when his fingers found the soft fur.
